Blueprint Virginia: Shaping the Future of Virginia Business

The webinar took place on Wedenesday, February 20, 2013.

This session will introduce the Virginia Chamber's plan to facilitate a strategic long-range eocnomic development strategy for Virginia. Our featured speaker is Barry DuVal, President and CEO of the Virginia Chamber of Commerce. Barry will discuss the rationale behind the BLUEPRINT VIRGINIA initiative and the importance for statewide stakeholder input.  Attendees will hear what the Virginia Chamber of Commerce is doing to engage business and community leaders in crafting the strategy for Virginia’s future.   The webinar will also provide an update for those who may have already heard about BLUEPRINT VIRGINIA during the Virginia Chamber of Commerce meeting in Williamsburg in November 2012.

Speaker: Barry DuVal, President and CEO, Virginia Chamber of Commerce

SPEAKER BIO

Barry DuVal took over the reins of the Virginia Chamber on July 1st and brings an impressive array of economic development and business credentials to his new post.

Barry’s public service began in 1988 when he was elected to the Newport News City Council. In 1990 he was elected Mayor of the city. He served as Mayor from 1990 through 1996.

From 1996 through 1998 he served as the founding President and CEO of Hampton Roads Partnership, a regional organization designed to advance the economic interest of Southeast Virginia’s 1.6 million citizens.

From 1998 through 2002 Barry served as the Secretary of Commerce and Trade for the Commonwealth of Virginia. During his term as Secretary, Virginia set new records of economic development with over 1500 economic development projects representing 156,850 new jobs and $13.7 billion in private investment.

Upon the completion of his term as the Secretary of Commerce and Trade, Barry served as President and CEO of Kaufman & Canoles Consulting, LLC, an economic development consulting firm specializing in Public Private Partnerships and strategic planning for business, government agencies and municipalities.

On April 28th of 2010 the Virginia Chamber of Commerce named Barry DuVal as its new President and CEO.
